Barry R. Levin Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature
was founded January 1, 1973. We are one of the world's leading dealers in rare and first editions of science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a strong emphasis on autographs, manuscripts, literary correspondence, and original art. A small portion of our inventory can be seen on our website at www.raresf.com, a larger portion at our store at 720 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica CA 90401-2602. (Regrettably our warehouse is not open to the public.)
Our store is beautifully laid out for the sale of rare books and original art. The front room, used as the main sales floor, has a very high ceiling, oak bookcases with glass doors, mirrored display cases, a double-door safe, oak paneling, and a large brass chandelier. All the floors are covered with wine-colored wall-to-wall carpet.
The guest lounge is behind the sales floor, a small comfortable room, with leather and oak furniture, a small refrigerator stocked with champagne, and two safes.
Original art covers the walls.
Above the lounge is the mezzanine, reached by a staircase lined with original art and autographs. The store's office is on the mezzanine, a very light airy room with two large windows and comfortable furniture. As you might imagine, this very handsome store has become a favorite place to visit for the local literati—a place where serious collectors can meet and talk books to their hearts' content while being surrounded by rare and first editions, manuscripts, and original art.
